What is HPV?
HPV is known as an STI (sexually transmitted infections). HPV in many cases comes and goes without the realisation that it was there in the first place. If the strain of HPV isn’t identified and tackled, it could lead to different types of cancers. It’s rare for this to happen but it’s important to be aware that It can happen.
Health complications may arise from some strains of HPV. Cancers and genital warts are two of these health complications. In spite of this, research shows HPV is not in the same category as HIV and Herpes.
How long can HPV be dormant?

What are the symptoms of HPV?
Most symptoms of HPV clear up on their own within a period of a year or two, usually without treatment in most cases. If the virus persists in your body, it typically means that there are other signs of concern for your health.
Some strains of HPV cause warts and other strains can cause cervical cancer for example.
According to Healthline, for oral HPV some symptoms may show as the following:

- pain when swallowing
- unexplained weight loss

Preventing the spread of HPV
Preventing HPV spread is best achieved by getting vaccinated against it. UK children born after 2006 can typically receive a vaccination through the NHS system. It’s crucial to get vaccinated against HPV if you were born before 2006 or if your child was born before then.
