Adenuric Description
Adenuric is a tablet taken by mouth for the long-term prevention of gout.
It lowers the build-up of uric acid in the body, which is what causes gout symptoms.
It helps to prevent symptoms in the long run rather than just relieving them, so it might take up to six months to be effective.

What is Adenuric?

Aduneric is the brand name for febuxostat, a medication that effectively treats gout, a form of arthritis.

This medicine is used to stop gout symptoms from starting, which happen when uric acid builds up in the body. If there's too much uric acid, crystals can form and gather in the joints. This can cause sudden and intense pain and swelling, often in the big toe, but it can affect other joints as well.

How does Adenuric work?

Adenuric helps prevent gout rather than just addressing the symptoms. It's used for long-term management and works by stopping more uric acid from building up, instead of removing it. By doing this, Adenuric enables your body to naturally get rid of the excess uric acid.

What doses of Adenuric are there?

The tablets come in two strengths: 80mg and 120mg. The dosage you are prescribed will depend on how severe your condition is, but treatment typically begins with the 80mg dose. Higher doses are generally used to manage uric acid buildup in patients receiving chemotherapy.

How long does it take Adenuric to work?

This can differ for each person, but Adenuric is intended for long-term use, so it may take around six months before you see any changes. Research indicates that your uric acid levels might initially increase in the first month or two, which can lead to a rise in gout symptoms. However, this is normal and part of the healing process. It's crucial to continue with the treatment to experience its full benefits. If you stop taking Adenuric, new crystals could form, leading to flare-ups and worsening the condition.

What should I do if I make a mistake when taking Adenuric?

If you forget to take your dose, simply take it as soon as you remember. Do not take a double dose to make up for the one you missed. Always follow the instructions provided by our clinicians and check the product leaflet for more details. If you have any questions, please get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to assist you.

How is Adenuric different from other treatments for gout?

There are several treatment options available for gout. Adenuric helps by stopping the condition from developing initially. It lowers uric acid levels in the body over time, which prevents crystals from forming in the joints. There are only a few reported side effects, and clinical studies have shown the treatment to be effective.

Other treatment options include NSAIDs, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which are used to manage attacks and ease symptoms during a flare-up. However, unlike Adenuric, these medications can lead to serious side effects, some of which may be life-threatening.

Is Adenuric similar to any other treatments?

Adenuric is the brand name for the active ingredient Febuxostat, which helps lower uric acid levels in the body. There are also generic versions of Adenuric that work the same way; they just come in different packaging and the tablets might look a bit different. These generic options are often a bit cheaper than the branded version.

Which version of Adenuric should I use?

Adenuric and its generic version are only available in tablet form. Our clinician will determine the right dosage for you, but you'll probably begin with the 80mg tablets.

How effective is Adenuric?

Adenuric, also known as the generic Febuxostat, is the first significant new treatment option for gout in over 40 years.

Research indicates that Adenuric can lower uric acid levels in roughly 70% of patients undergoing treatment, and it is highly effective at maintaining these reduced levels over the long term.

Adenuric may take around six months to work fully, so it's important to continue taking it as instructed.

Do I need a prescription for Adenuric?

Yes, a clinician will need to ensure that Adenuric is safe and appropriate for you, considering your medical history. If you're allergic to any of its ingredients or have a pre-existing health condition, it might not be suitable for you.
