Dermovate Description
Dermovate is a powerful steroid used to treat atopic, discoid, and dyshidrotic eczema. It's particularly effective for more severe cases of eczema.
To order Dermovate online, just answer a few questions about yourself, and our clinicians will suggest the most suitable treatment for you.

What is Dermovate?

Dermovate is a steroid cream used to treat skin conditions such as atopic, discoid, and dyshidrotic eczema. It contains a potent steroid called clobetasol propionate, which is prescribed for severe eczema cases when gentler steroids haven't been effective.

There are several kinds of eczema, each with its own symptoms. Atopic eczema is the most common type. It usually involves dry, itchy skin that can get inflamed and sometimes infected. Discoid eczema, which can occur with atopic eczema, is identified by round, coin-shaped patches on the skin that are often red or purple. Lastly, dyshidrotic eczema typically appears on the hands and feet of adults, and it causes blisters that can burst and lead to infections.

How does Dermovate work?

Inflammation, or swelling, is usually how your body reacts to an allergy or irritant. It's triggered by the release of cells such as lymphocytes and eosinophils.

Dermovate, similar to other corticosteroids, helps to lessen inflammation by preventing the release and activity of inflammatory cells. It's a topical corticosteroid, which means you apply it directly to your skin to treat inflammation in that specific area.

What versions of Dermovate are there?

Dermovate comes in three forms: a cream, an ointment, and a scalp treatment. Each one has the same active ingredient at the same strength, but they're used in different ways. The Dermovate scalp treatment is specifically for your scalp and is used to treat conditions like psoriasis and scalp eczema. It is available as a liquid solution in a bottle, making it easy to apply.

Dermovate cream and ointment are quite alike, both used to treat skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. The key difference lies in their texture and composition: Dermovate cream is lighter and more fluid, while Dermovate ointment is denser and richer. The ointment is generally preferred for dry, flaky skin as its formula allows it to be absorbed better by the skin, often making it more effective than the cream.

How long does Dermovate take to work?

You should notice some improvement within a few days of using Dermovate. However, if your skin hasn't changed after two weeks, get in touch with your clinician. They may adjust your dosage or recommend a different treatment.

What should I do if I make a mistake when taking Dermovate?

If you accidentally use too much on your skin, give your doctor a call or visit the hospital. Using a large amount can lead to side effects and make you feel unwell.

If you forget to use Dermovate, just apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with your usual schedule. Avoid applying a double dose to make up for the one you missed.

How effective is Dermovate for eczema?

The treatment for eczema can differ based on the type you have. If your eczema is mild, you usually won't need steroids. Instead, using a good emollient can help keep your skin moisturised and repair the skin barrier. However, if you have discoid, dyshidrotic, or severe atopic eczema, steroids are necessary for treatment.

How potent is Dermovate?

Dermovate is one of the strongest steroids available. On the opposite end, hydrocortisone is the mildest. Betnovate and Elocon are two other well-known steroid creams that are moderately strong.

Most steroids require a prescription, but 1% hydrocortisone can be bought over the counter. To obtain a steroid, your clinician will evaluate your condition and prescribe it according to its severity. Typically, stronger steroids are used for serious skin conditions or when milder ones aren't effective.

Can you buy Dermovate over the counter?

No, you can only get Dermovate with a prescription. This ensures your clinician can determine if it's a safe and effective option for you.

What are the side effects of Dermovate?

Like all medications, Dermovate might cause side effects that could impact you. Some common side effects are:

Dermovate is a very strong steroid, so it's important to follow your clinician's instructions when using it. If used incorrectly, it might make your condition worse or lead to steroid withdrawal reactions. These reactions can happen if you've been using steroids for a long time and then stop, causing your skin to burn, itch, dry out, peel, or sting.
