Elleste Solo Description
Elleste Solo is a type of HRT that helps relieve menopause symptoms.
Take one tablet each day, roughly at the same time.
The tablets have an oestrogen and are available in 1mg or 2mg doses.

What you need to know about Elleste Solo

Elleste Solo is given to help manage symptoms experienced after menopause, like hot flushes and mood swings. These symptoms typically persist for about four or five years, though they can last longer. During this period, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) options like Elleste Solo can help regulate your body's hormones.

This medication is only prescribed for women who have had a hysterectomy or when taken with a separate oral progesterone tablet. If you haven't had a hysterectomy, there are plenty of other treatments you can consider, such as Elleste Duet.

What is Elleste Solo used for?

Elleste Solo is given to help manage symptoms of post-menopause, which occur due to hormonal changes in the body. Menopausal symptoms can greatly impact your quality of life, so by balancing your hormones, Elleste Solo assists you in feeling like yourself once more.

Elleste Solo is only suitable for women who have had a hysterectomy, unless it's used alongside a separate progesterone treatment.

How does Elleste Solo work?

Menopause causes major changes in the body, mainly due to shifts in hormone levels. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) helps by replacing these hormones, or in the case of Elleste Solo, just one hormone, to relieve the symptoms that come with it.

It's not a complete cure, but it can significantly relieve menopause symptoms, making this phase of your life less challenging.

Does Elleste Solo come as a patch?

Elleste Solo was also available as a patch known as the Elleste Solo MX patch. It functioned just like the tablet but offered a more convenient option. You simply applied it to your skin below the waist. The patch needed to be changed twice a week and came in two doses – 40 and 80 micrograms of estradiol.

The patch was discontinued in October 2021, so it's no longer available. However, there are other oestrogen-only patches you can consider, such as Estraderm MX or Estradot.

What should I do if I miss a dose of the tablet?

If you forget to take a tablet, take it as soon as you remember. Avoid taking two doses to make up for the one you missed. If you're still having your period and are also taking a separate progesterone, you might notice some spotting due to the decrease in hormone levels.

What’s the difference between Elleste Solo and Elleste Duet?

While both are classified as HRT, they don't address the same issue or even the same stage of the menopause cycle.

Elleste Solo is given to women who are post-menopausal, meaning their periods have stopped. It has one active ingredient, estradiol, which is a type of oestrogen. On the other hand, Elleste Duet includes both an oestrogen and a progesterone called norethisterone, making it a combined hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

Why are there two versions? Taking oestrogen alone for those over 35 can significantly increase the risk of cancer and endometrial hyperplasia. The synthetic progesterone in Elleste Duet reduces that risk while still offering the same benefits.

This isn't a problem if you've had a hysterectomy, which is why Elleste Solo is only prescribed for postmenopausal women who have undergone this procedure.

What do I need to know before using Elleste Solo?

If your periods are still regular, you should start HRT on the first day of your period. If not, you can begin taking it immediately, but this only matters if you're also using a separate progesterone treatment with Elleste.

If you're switching from a different type of HRT, you should start taking your first Elleste Solo the day after you complete your previous treatment, unless your clinician has advised you differently.

What are the Elleste Solo dosages?

Elleste Solo comes in two different strengths for each type. There are Elleste Solo tablets available in 1mg and a stronger 2mg version, and similarly, the patches come as Elleste Solo MX 40 and MX 80. Usually, you'll start with the lower dose, and it will only be increased if it doesn't work well enough for you.

If you're unsure whether your dose is suitable, or if it's not working well or causing side effects, please inform our clinician through your Treated account. They can talk to you about adjusting your dose if needed.

Is Zumenon the same as Elleste Solo?

Yes, they do. Both Elleste Solo and Zumenon have the same active ingredient, estradiol hemihydrate, and come in the same dosages of 1mg and 2mg. The only differences are in the packaging, name, and price.

Elleste Solo tends to be a bit more affordable, but it's always a good idea to compare prices on products with the same ingredients and dosages.
