Epaderm Description
Epaderm is a selection of emollients designed to help manage dry skin conditions.
It helps to keep your skin hydrated and moisturised.
It's available as a cream or ointment.

What is Epaderm?

Epaderm offers a selection of emollients designed for dry skin. Emollients are moisturisers that include hydrating ingredients without any perfumes or harsh chemicals. They are effective in treating dry skin and are crucial for managing conditions such as psoriasis.

Psoriasis is a skin condition that results in dry, scaly, and rough patches, often referred to as psoriatic lesions. This happens because of an excess production of keratin, causing the skin to become dry and rough. It also weakens the skin's barrier, making it less effective at holding in moisture and keeping out harmful germs.

How does Epaderm work?

The skin barrier's protective role is crucial for keeping skin healthy. The top layer, known as the stratum corneum, supports this by forming a barrier with keratinocytes, which are cells that produce keratin. This barrier helps stop water from escaping and prevents germs from entering, which could lead to infections.

In people with psoriasis, this process is disrupted because there is an overproduction of keratinocytes. The immune system also plays a role in this condition, as it leads to inflammation.

Applying emollients can help repair your skin barrier by forming a protective layer that stops water from escaping. This can lessen inflammation, scaling, itching, and redness, leading to healthier skin overall.

What products of Epaderm are there?

Epaderm offers two key products: a cream and an ointment. They both have similar ingredients and are good for treating dry skin. The main difference is that ointments are thicker and oilier than creams. This makes them better at repairing your skin barrier and dealing with dry skin. You can also use Epaderm ointment in the bath to help restore moisture.

How long does Epaderm take to work?

Epaderm can quickly moisturise dry skin, but for the best results, it's important to apply it regularly and use it as a soap substitute or add it to your bath.

How is Epaderm different from other emollients?

There are plenty of emollients available to help manage your psoriasis. Options include products like Fifty 50, Doublebase, and Epaderm. They all have moisturising ingredients that work well for dry skin. The main differences are in their cost and packaging, so it's really about what you prefer.

Can Epaderm treat psoriasis?

It depends on whether your psoriasis is mild or severe. If your psoriasis is managed well, emollients can help prevent it from worsening and reduce flare-ups. However, if you have severe psoriasis with scaly, rough patches, you'll probably need to use steroids or vitamin D treatments as well. These can help regulate keratin production, which aids in treating psoriatic lesions.

Who is Epaderm for?

Epaderm products are free from harsh ingredients, making them ideal for those with dry skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. These conditions share a common issue: a damaged skin barrier. Emollients can help repair this barrier, keeping your skin healthy and well-hydrated.

Is Epaderm available prescription-free?

Yes, you can buy Epaderm without a prescription, but it must be purchased from a registered pharmacy. This is to make sure it's safe and appropriate for your use.
