Estraderm Mx Description
Estraderm MX is an HRT patch that delivers oestrogen through your skin.
It can help ease menopause symptoms such as hot flushes and night sweats.
The patches are for women who haven't had a period in at least a year.

What is Estraderm MX?

Estraderm is an oestrogen-only HRT patch that delivers oestrogen through the skin. It's a quick and convenient option. You can choose between a one-month supply with eight patches or a three-month supply with 24 patches.

Estraderm MX contains estradiol as its active ingredient, a hormone naturally made by your body. It's the most potent form of oestrogen.

How does Estraderm MX work?

Estraderm is a patch that releases estradiol through your skin. You stick it on and wear it for a few days, then remove it and put on a new one.

Oestrogen-only HRT, such as Estraderm, boosts the oestrogen levels in your body. This helps to ease post-menopausal symptoms like hot flushes, night sweats, and trouble sleeping. Additionally, it offers protection against osteoporosis, or weak bones, which some women may experience after menopause.

Who is Estraderm MX for?

Women who haven't had a period for at least a year can use Estraderm MX to help reduce post-menopause symptoms.

Estraderm MX might be a better treatment choice for women who have had a hysterectomy. If you still have your womb, you'll need to take an extra progestogen with Estraderm, because using oestrogen on its own can cause the lining of the womb to continue growing. Without the extra progestogen to control this, there's a higher risk of developing endometrial cancer. You can get the additional progestogen from a Mirena contraceptive coil (or something similar), or as a gel or tablet.

How well does Estraderm MX work?

There's not a lot of research on how well Estraderm MX and other oestrogen-only patches work. Most studies look at how often hot flushes occur when using HRT. Women who are post-menopausal and used HRT had 84% fewer hot flushes.

Are there different doses available for Estraderm MX?

Estraderm MX comes in four different strengths, and the amount of oestrogen that your skin absorbs changes with each strength.

1
Estraderm 25 is a 0.75mg dose that delivers 25mcg of estradiol daily.
2
Estraderm 50 provides a 1.5mg dose, delivering 50mcg of estradiol daily.
3
Estraderm 75 is a patch that delivers 75 micrograms of estradiol daily, with a total dose of 2.25mg.
4
Estraderm 100 is a patch that provides a daily dose of 100 micrograms of estradiol from a 3.0mg supply.

If you're using Estraderm MX and your post-menopause symptoms aren't improving, our clinician can adjust your dose. If you're having side effects such as redness, itching, breakthrough bleeding, or headaches, they might lower your dose. Simply log in to your account and message our clinician, and they can discuss adjusting your dose with you.

How long does it take Estraderm MX to work?

You should start to notice relief from your symptoms about two weeks after beginning to use Estraderm MX patches. Typically, you'll experience the full benefits of the medication after three months.

Is Estraderm MX better than HRT tablets?

The best HRT treatment for you will depend on what you prefer. Some women like patches more than tablets because they only need changing twice a week. On the other hand, HRT tablets must be taken at the same time each day, which might be less convenient for you. Patches are usually safer for women with cardiovascular risk factors like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, being overweight, or having a heart condition. If you're likely to experience certain side effects, this might also influence which treatment is better suited for you.

Do I need a prescription for Estraderm MX?

You can't buy Estraderm MX without a prescription, so you'll need to consult a clinician before you can begin using it. Our clinician can prescribe it if it's a suitable and safe treatment for you.

Is Estradiol the same as Estraderm MX?

Estradiol is the active ingredient in Estraderm MX and is the strongest form of oestrogen.
