Evorel is a type of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) designed for women going through menopause. As women get older, they experience menopause over about seven years. During this time, levels of the hormones oestrogen and progesterone drop, which can lead to issues like hot flushes, vaginal dryness, and osteoporosis (weak bones). Using Evorel helps to boost oestrogen levels in the body, which can help prevent these menopausal symptoms.
Menopause symptoms happen when the oestrogen hormone levels drop. To help with these symptoms, you can use HRT, such as Evorel, which boosts oestrogen levels.
Evorel contains estradiol, which is a synthetic version of a hormone naturally present in the body. The body has three main types of oestrogen: estrone (E1), estradiol (E2), and estriol (E3). Estradiol is the strongest form of oestrogen. It attaches to oestrogen receptors in the body, changing gene expression to produce more protein. This helps relieve menopause symptoms like vaginal dryness, supports bone density, and reduces night sweats and hot flushes.
Evorel is a patch you wear on your skin every day. It contains estradiol in varying strengths, releasing doses of 25µg, 50µg, 75µg, or 100µg. Most packs have 8 patches, but the 50µg option is also available in packs of 2 or 24.
Your clinician will usually start you on the lowest dose for the shortest time needed. If your symptoms aren't managed, the dose can be raised to a maximum of 100µg per day.
You can put the patch on at any time if:
If you have regular periods and aren't using HRT at the moment, apply the patch within five days of the start of your period.
If you're switching from a different HRT that causes withdrawal bleeding, apply the patch either at the end of your previous treatment cycle or one week after finishing another HRT product.
If you're on a different type of HRT, the timing for starting Evorel will vary based on the HRT you're currently using. Please get in touch with our clinician for further details.
It might take a few weeks before you notice the full benefits of HRT. During this time, it's important not to stop taking it—keep using it until you see the full effects. However, if after 4-6 months you don't feel any different, get in touch with your clinician to talk about your options. You might need to try a different HRT or a higher dose.
If you forget to change your Evorel patch, just apply a new one as soon as you remember. Stick to your usual days for changing the patch.
It's not very likely that you'll have an excess of the hormone in your body. However, if you do, you might experience the following symptoms:
