Fucidin H Description
Fucidin H is a cream you apply to the skin that can assist in managing psoriasis.
It includes an antibiotic to combat infection and a steroid to lessen inflammation.
You'll typically apply it twice a day – once in the morning and again in the evening.

What is Fucidin H?

Fucidin H is a cream applied to the skin, often prescribed for psoriasis. However, your doctor might also recommend it for other skin issues like eczema if they believe it could be beneficial. Psoriasis and eczema can appear similar, but they have some differences. Both involve red, dry, and itchy skin, but psoriasis is an autoimmune condition. This means your immune system is not functioning properly, leading to rapid skin cell growth. On the other hand, the exact cause of eczema isn't fully understood, but it's believed to result from a mix of genetic and environmental factors.

Similar to Fucidin cream, it has fusidic acid as its active ingredient. This is an antibiotic, which means it helps to combat bacterial infections on the skin.

However, unlike Fucidin cream, Fucidin H also includes hydrocortisone acetate. Hydrocortisones are a kind of steroid that help treat skin conditions by easing irritation.

How does Fucidin H work?

With skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema, scratching can create lesions that allow bacteria to enter, leading to infection. This can cause more pain, discomfort, and inflammation. The antibiotic in both Fucidin cream and Fucidin H works by stopping the bacteria on your skin from making the proteins they need to survive. This prevents the bacteria from spreading, allowing your body's immune system to eliminate the infection.

The hydrocortisone in Fucidin H helps reduce inflammation and irritation in the infected area, making it a more effective treatment if your symptoms are more severe.

What doses of Fucidin H are there?

Fucidin H comes in just one dose. If it doesn't improve your symptoms as expected, it might be a good idea to contact your clinician to discuss whether trying a different treatment would be beneficial.

How long does it take Fucidin H to work?

Typically, you should notice an improvement in your condition within seven days of using Fucidin H, and the treatment usually lasts for two weeks. If there's no improvement after seven days, stop using it and inform our clinician. You may need a different treatment.

What should I do if I make a mistake when using Fucidin H?

If Fucidin H gets into your eyes by mistake, rinse them with cool running water. If you swallow Fucidin H accidentally, it's important to get medical assistance.

Do I need a prescription for Fucidin H?

Is Fucidin H similar to any other treatments?

Fucidin H and Fucidin cream look and sound quite similar, but there's a key difference. Fucidin H includes hydrocortisone along with fusidic acid, making it more appropriate if your symptoms are a bit more severe. Typically, Fucidin cream is given for conditions like impetigo and eczema. However, if you have psoriasis, Fucidin H might be the one prescribed for you.

How is Fucidin H different from other treatments for psoriasis?

Many treatments for eczema and psoriasis include hydrocortisone because it effectively eases irritation and inflammation. Therefore, Fucidin H works in a similar way to other hydrocortisone creams. Some treatments, like Terra-Cortril, combine hydrocortisone with an antibiotic. However, Terra-Cortril contains a different antibiotic, doxycycline, so while it will treat your condition similarly, it won't be exactly the same.
