Lustral Description
Sertraline is an antidepressant tablet that can assist in treating PE.
It raises serotonin levels, which may help in delaying ejaculation.
Research indicates that Sertraline may help men with PE last longer before ejaculation.

What is Sertraline?

Sertraline is often prescribed to treat depression or anxiety disorders. It works by boosting serotonin levels to help lift low moods. Additionally, medical experts have discovered that Sertraline tablets can also be effective in treating premature ejaculation.

An antidepressant for premature ejaculation. Sounds strange doesn’t it? Well, it’s all to do with the effects of neurotransmitters in the brain. Some antidepressants – particularly SSRIs like Sertraline – work on the parts of the brain that deal with sensitivity in the penis. So by dulling this activity, it helps the person taking it to last longer in bed.

Sertraline is the brand name for Sertraline, a generic medication. Both contain the same active ingredient and function in the same manner. However, Sertraline is produced by a company named Upjohn, whereas Sertraline is manufactured by different companies.

What is Sertraline used for?

Sertraline is mainly used to treat mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

When Sertraline antidepressants are given for premature ejaculation, it's considered an off-label use. This means the medication is being used for a condition it wasn't initially intended to treat. A doctor will only prescribe it this way if there is evidence proving it's safe. They rely on past clinical trials that have demonstrated Sertraline's ability to increase the 'Intravaginal Ejaculatory Latency Time (IELT)', which is the duration before climax during sex.

How does Sertraline work?

Sertraline is a medication known as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). While increasing serotonin can improve mood and reduce anxiety, it may also lower your sex drive, which some might see as a downside. However, for those dealing with premature ejaculation (PE), this effect can be beneficial. Reduced sexual desire combined with delayed orgasms can help men last longer before ejaculating.

We don't completely understand why antidepressants affect ejaculation in this way. There are some theories, but no definite answers. Some experts think it might be because they lower dopamine levels. When serotonin goes up, dopamine tends to go down. Dopamine is a chemical that makes you feel stimulated, so if there's less of it in your body, you might feel less sexually aroused.

Does Sertraline cause weight gain?

Can I take Sertraline with alcohol?

Yes, you can, but do be cautious. Mixing Sertraline with alcohol might make you feel a bit sleepy initially. It's a good idea to avoid drinking large amounts of alcohol when you first begin taking the medication. Alcohol can also worsen the effects of premature ejaculation, so it's always best to drink responsibly. Allow your body some time to adjust to the medication and see how it reacts. If you need specific guidance on drinking while on this medication, check the instructions that come with your tablets or contact our clinician for advice.

Can I get Sertraline over the counter?
