Prednisolone

Prednisolone is a tablet taken by mouth to treat eczema. It can also come in a liquid form. The active ingredient, prednisolone, is part of a group of medicines known as corticosteroids. These tablets are used to treat various conditions, such as allergies and blood disorders.

Corticosteroids are commonly used to treat eczema due to their anti-inflammatory properties. They are frequently used to manage skin conditions because they can help reduce swelling and irritation.

Prednisolone helps in two main ways: it reduces inflammation and dampens your immune system. This calming effect on the immune response is especially helpful for treating certain types of eczema, like atopic eczema, which can be worsened by allergens.

Managing eczema usually requires a mix of approaches. Steering clear of irritants, applying emollients, using calcineurin inhibitors, and addressing any secondary infections can all help ease your symptoms. If your eczema is severe and not responding to standard topical treatments, oral corticosteroids may be prescribed.

Prednisolone tablets come in a variety of doses, from 1 mg to 30 mg per day.

The dose you're given will be based on how severe your eczema symptoms are and how you respond to the treatment. You might begin with a low dose to check how well it works for you.

Once your skin condition begins to get better, the dose of Prednisone you're taking is typically lowered. However, if your clinician believes it could benefit your eczema, they might decide to increase your dose instead.
