Qvar Easi Breathe Description
Qvar Easi-Breathe is an inhaler you use every day to help manage your asthma symptoms.
It helps prevent asthma attacks by decreasing inflammation in the airways.
It begins to relieve symptoms in just 30 minutes.

What is Qvar Easi-Breathe inhaler?

Qvar Easi-Breathe is a corticosteroid inhaler prescribed for asthma. It's used every day to help lessen your symptoms and decrease the chance of asthma attacks. Additionally, it aids in safeguarding your lungs from long-term harm due to asthma.

Qvar Easi-Breathe is a special type of inhaler that contains steroids. It's more effective than other steroid inhalers at reaching the lungs directly. This means it can start working against asthma more easily and tends to cause fewer side effects. It's named Easi-Breathe because it's very easy to use—just breathe in, and you're covered for the day.

Is Qvar Easi-Breathe a rescue inhaler?

Qvar Easi-Breathe is a preventer inhaler, which means you should use it daily, even if you're not experiencing any symptoms. It helps lower the risk of asthma attacks over time. However, it's not a rescue inhaler, so it won't help during an asthma attack. If you're using a preventer inhaler like Qvar Easi-Breathe, you’ll usually also have a rescue inhaler prescribed. If you don't currently have a rescue inhaler, speak to your clinician.

How does the Qvar Easi-Breathe inhaler work?

The Qvar Easi-Breathe inhaler contains the active ingredient beclometasone dipropionate. This is a type of medicine known as a corticosteroid. Corticosteroids help manage asthma by reducing inflammation in the airways. They work by 'switching off' many of the genes responsible for inflammation. This helps to lessen swelling and irritation, making it easier to breathe. Regular use of corticosteroid inhalers can also prevent your asthma from worsening over time and protect your airways from damage.

The beclometasone in Qvar Easi-Breathe is more effective on the lungs compared to other corticosteroid inhalers. This means it works more directly in the lungs when you inhale, potentially making it more effective. Since less of it is absorbed into the rest of your body, it's also less likely to cause side effects than other corticosteroid inhalers.

What doses of Qvar Easi-Breathe inhaler are there?

The Qvar Easi-Breathe inhaler is available in two strengths. One provides a 50mcg dose of the active ingredient, beclomethasone dipropionate, with each puff. The other is stronger, delivering 100mcg per puff. The daily dosage for Qvar Easi-Breathe ranges from 100mcg to 800mcg. Typically, you'll need to take at least two puffs a day.

The number of puffs you need will depend on how severe your asthma is. Your clinician will advise you on the exact number of puffs of Qvar Easi-Breathe to take. If your current dose isn't managing your asthma well, you might need to increase it. If you feel you need a higher dose, it's important to discuss this with your clinician.

How long does it take Qvar Easi-Breathe inhaler to work?

The beclometasone in Qvar Easi-Breathe is quickly absorbed through your lungs. It reaches its highest concentration in your body within 30 minutes. This means Qvar Easi-Breathe should begin to relieve your asthma symptoms fairly soon.

Since Qvar Easi-Breathe is a long-term preventative treatment, its benefits increase and strengthen with continued use. You should not stop using it unless advised by your clinician. If you think it's not effective for you, or you find you also need a rescue inhaler, please consult your clinician or contact us if you're using our service.

What should I do if I make a mistake when using the Qvar Easi-Breathe inhaler?

Only take the dose your clinician has prescribed for you. If you forget to use your Qvar Easi-Breathe inhaler at the right time, just use it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for your next dose, simply skip the missed one and continue with your usual schedule. If you find yourself frequently forgetting to use your Qvar Easi-Breathe inhaler, consider setting an alarm or using a reminder app on your phone. Establishing a routine, such as taking your prescribed doses when you wake up and before bed, might also be helpful.

Don't exceed your prescribed number of puffs to compensate for any missed doses. If you accidentally take too many puffs of Qvar Easi-Breathe, seek medical help. To clean the mouthpiece of your inhaler, use a dry cloth or tissue. Avoid getting it wet. If water gets into your inhaler, it might not function correctly, and you should replace it.

Do I need a prescription for Qvar Easi-Breathe?

Yes, you'll need a clinician to prescribe Qvar Easi-Breathe before you can obtain it. It contains a potent corticosteroid treatment and is intended for individuals with asthma. Therefore, it's not suitable for everyone. If you have asthma and believe Qvar Easi-Breathe could be beneficial for you, have a chat with your clinician.

How is Qvar Easi-Breathe different from other treatments for asthma?

There's another type of Easi-Breathe inhaler called Salamol Easi-Breathe. Unlike Qvar Easi-Breathe, it contains salbutamol instead of beclometasone. These are different kinds of medication: beclometasone in Qvar Easi-Breathe is a corticosteroid, while salbutamol in Salamol Easi-Breathe is a beta-2 receptor agonist. This means one might be effective for you if the other isn't. However, since both are Easi-Breathe inhalers, you use them in the same manner.

Is Qvar Easi-Breathe similar to any other treatments?

There are other asthma treatments that include beclometasone. Some have the same active ingredient and dosage but are sold under different brand names, so they work in much the same way. The key difference is that Qvar is the only Easi-Breathe inhaler with beclometasone, which means it's used a bit differently.

There are also combination inhalers that include beclometasone along with another active ingredient, such as formoterol. These inhalers have a corticosteroid like beclometasone and a long-acting bronchodilator. They're typically used for people with asthma who experience more severe symptoms or find it difficult to manage their asthma.

How effective is Qvar Easi-Breathe?

Qvar Easi-Breathe is an effective treatment for asthma. In a study lasting 12 weeks, individuals using Qvar Easi-Breathe experienced noticeable improvements in peak expiratory flow, which indicates how open the airways are and how well one can breathe. They also needed their rescue inhalers less often and noticed an overall improvement in their asthma symptoms. Additionally, their quality of life got better.

A longer-term study showed that lung function and asthma control got much better after 14 months of treatment.

Qvar Easi-Breathe is effective and safe for long-term use.
