Sandrena Description
Sandrena is a hormone replacement therapy gel that contains only oestrogen.
It's used to relieve menopause symptoms such as hot flushes and difficulty sleeping.
You can apply the gel every day or just on specific days of the month.

What is Sandrena?

Sandrena is a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) available as a gel. It contains estradiol, which is a type of oestrogen. After menopause, women might face uncomfortable symptoms such as hot flushes in the face, neck, and chest, joint pain, trouble sleeping, or memory issues because their oestrogen levels drop. Sandrena gel can help ease these symptoms.

Sandrena gel is available in 0.5mg and 1mg doses, each containing 0.5mg and 1mg of estradiol, respectively. Estradiol is a synthetic version of oestrogen, helping to balance the decreasing hormone levels in women who are postmenopausal.

How Does Sandrena Work?

During menopause, the body's oestrogen levels decrease. This can cause a range of symptoms after menopause, such as hot flushes affecting the face, neck, and chest, joint pain, trouble sleeping, memory issues, and a lower sex drive.

Sandrena is a gel with an alcohol base that contains estradiol. When you apply the gel, the alcohol evaporates, allowing the estradiol to be absorbed through your skin. This absorbed estradiol helps boost oestrogen levels and alleviates postmenopausal symptoms.

After you begin using Sandrena, you should notice your symptoms improving within a few weeks.

Who is Sandrena for?

Menopause is a natural stage in every woman's life. Although it can be uncomfortable, there are ways to manage the symptoms. It typically occurs between the ages of 45 and 55, though it can sometimes happen earlier or later.

Sandrena can be taken every day or on specific days each month. If you still have your womb, it's recommended to also take a suitable amount of progesterone to lower the risk of the womb lining becoming too thick, known as endometrial hyperplasia.

If you've gone through menopause and aren't using HRT, or if you're on combined HRT, you can start your Sandrena treatment on any day. However, if you're following a continuous sequential HRT plan, you should begin this treatment once you've finished your current regimen.

Sandrena Gel Reviews: How well does it work?

According to a clinical study looking into how effective Sandrena is when used with progesterone:

1
By the sixth month, 71% of women experienced no bleeding.
2
After one year, 95% of women experienced complete relief from hot flushes.

What dose of Sandrena is best for me?

Sandrena Gel comes in 0.5mg and 1mg doses. Typically, you'll begin with the 0.5mg dose, which is the lowest, to check its effectiveness. If this dose doesn't work well enough, it can be gradually increased up to 1.5mg. Each woman responds differently to oestrogen, and our clinician will consider this when deciding your dose.

Sandrena Gel and progesterone: do I need to take both?

If you still have your womb (meaning you haven't had a hysterectomy), then yes, it's important to consider. Oestrogen-only treatments, such as Sandrena gel, can lead to the thickening of the womb lining if the oestrogen level isn't monitored, which may raise the risk of issues like cancer. Progesterone helps to balance this by keeping oestrogen levels in check.

What is Sandrena Gel made from?

Sandrena Gel contains the active ingredient Estradiol, which is the synthetic version of the natural hormone oestrogen. The gel also includes Carbopol 974P, Trolamine, Propylene Glycol, Alcohol, and Purified Water.

Does Sandrena Gel cause weight loss?

There's no solid evidence to back this up. However, whether you're using Sandrena or not, menopause can cause weight changes. Many factors can affect weight loss and gain, so it's possible for someone to notice these changes while on treatment, and they might be noted as side effects. Still, there's no direct connection believed to exist between taking HRT and weight changes.

Can I get oestrogen gel over the counter?

Sandrena, like other oestrogen gels, isn't available to buy over-the-counter. It's a prescription-only medication, so you'll need to have a consultation with our clinician to see if it's suitable for you.

How long before Sandrena Gel starts to work?

After you begin using Sandrena, you should notice some symptom relief within a few weeks. It might take up to three months to experience the full benefits.

At first, you might experience some side effects such as vaginal bleeding, breast tenderness or enlargement, fluid retention that causes bloating, headaches, leg cramps, indigestion, swelling in other parts of the body, and raised blood pressure. These usually settle down within a few weeks.
