Scopoderm Description
Scopoderm is a patch used to prevent symptoms of motion sickness, such as feeling nauseous.
It's long-lasting, with each patch working effectively for up to three days.
Apply it behind the ear five to six hours before you travel.

What is Scopoderm?

Scopoderm is a patch used to prevent motion sickness.

Feeling dizzy, tired, and sick while travelling are all symptoms of motion sickness. Although women and children aged between two and 12 are most likely to experience it, anyone can be affected.

Apply Scopoderm patches to the skin behind your ear about five to six hours before you begin your journey. Each patch offers protection for up to three days, or 72 hours. If your trip is shorter, you should take it off once your journey is over.

How does Scopoderm work?

Motion sickness happens when your eyes and ears send different signals to your brain, causing confusion. It usually occurs when you're travelling by plane, car, train, or boat, or when you're on amusement park rides. Scopoderm is absorbed through the skin and works to prevent motion sickness by blocking messages from the vestibular system (inner ear) from reaching the part of the brain that controls the vomiting reflex. This helps lessen the symptoms of motion sickness.

The active ingredient in Scopoderm is hyoscine hydrobromide. Each Scopoderm patch contains 1.5mg of hyoscine.

What doses of Scopoderm are there?

Scopoderm is designed as a one-time treatment, available in just one dose: a 1.5mg patch. If it doesn't ease your motion sickness symptoms as you'd hoped, please log into your account and message our clinician. They might suggest trying a different medication.

How long does it take Scopoderm to work?

Scopoderm begins to take effect within five to six hours after you apply it. Therefore, it's best to put it on five to six hours before you begin your journey.

What should I do if I make a mistake when using Scopoderm?

Always make sure to follow the instructions on the Scopoderm packaging closely. If you place the patch on the wrong spot, take it off and put it behind your ear, as that's where it works best. If you mistakenly use more than one patch, remove them straight away. Using too many patches can lead to restlessness, confusion, or even hallucinations, which can be quite serious. If you notice any of these symptoms, get in touch with a healthcare professional right away.

How is Scopoderm different from other treatments for motion sickness?

Scopoderm is available as a patch, which could be a great option if you prefer not to take tablets or capsules. You can wear it for up to three days, making it longer lasting than other motion sickness medications.

Is Scopoderm similar to any other treatments?

Can Scopoderm help with drooling?

Scopoderm can be used to help manage drooling, but it's only meant for patients with severe disabilities. It's not suitable for everyone, and it might cause side effects.

A clinical study on how effective Scopoderm is in managing drooling revealed the following results:

How effective is Scopoderm?

Various clinical trials have demonstrated that Scopoderm is the most effective treatment for motion sickness.

There are other treatment options that might not be as effective, but they can serve as alternatives. The best motion sickness treatment for you could depend on whether you're likely to experience certain side effects or if you're allergic to any ingredients in specific medications.

Do I need a prescription for Scopoderm?

No, you don't need a prescription for Scopoderm; it's available over the counter at pharmacies and some supermarkets. However, like any medication, Scopoderm may cause side effects such as blurred vision, drowsiness, reduced sweating, and mild irritation or redness. We're here to help you find treatments that are safe and suitable for you.
