Sebco Description
Sebco is an ointment you apply to the skin to treat conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis, which can lead to dry, scaly skin and dandruff on your scalp.
Tell us a bit about your health, and we'll help you find the right treatments to start immediately. You can order Sebco for seborrhoeic dermatitis online and have it delivered straight to your door.

What is Sebco?

Sebco is an ointment that combines coconut oil with three active ingredients: coal tar, salicylic acid, and sulphur. It works to soften and remove scaly skin and also has antiseptic qualities. Sebco is used to treat conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, and seborrhoeic dermatitis of the scalp. It's commonly prescribed for dandruff, which is another name for seborrhoeic dermatitis of the scalp.

Combination formulas with tar, salicylic acid, and sulphur are commonly used for treating scalp psoriasis. They're believed to help reduce scales and penetrate the skin more effectively than other treatments.

How does Sebco work?

This blend of ingredients is inspired by the original tar pomade formula (Ung. Cocois Co) developed at St John’s Institute of Dermatology in London. It has been used to treat dermatitis for more than 70 years. Tar treatments work by reducing inflammation and scaly skin, as they slow down the production of new skin cells.

Sebco is designed for use on the scalp, where seborrheic dermatitis commonly occurs, though it can also show up on the chest, face, and in skin folds. The ointment contains three ingredients that work together to lessen flakiness, scaliness, and dryness, helping to clear dandruff and ease irritation.

Are there different doses of Sebco?

Sebco comes in tubes of either 40g or 100g. Each size contains the same levels of the three active ingredients: 12% coal tar solution, 2% salicylic acid, and 4% sulphur for external use.

Typically, you'll apply the ointment once daily for three to seven days to get your seborrhoeic dermatitis under control. After that, you can use it occasionally to help manage dandruff and scaly skin.

A clinician will advise you on how often to use Sebco. If your symptoms persist and require additional treatment, your dosage routine might differ from the usual recommendation.

How is Sebco different from other treatments for Seborrheic Dermatitis?

Sebco stands out as a treatment for seborrhoeic dermatitis due to its combination of three active ingredients. Coal tar reduces inflammation and fights bacteria, salicylic acid softens the skin, and sulphur has antifungal properties. Together, these ingredients can help you control dandruff and scaly skin outbreaks.

Corticosteroids are another option for treating skin irritation and inflammation. They're typically used for flare-ups that need something stronger than Sebco.

Calcineurin inhibitors and azoles are also used. These treatments have proven effective in managing seborrhoeic dermatitis.

Our medical experts will prescribe the medication they believe is most suitable for you, based on your health needs.

How well does Sebco work for Seborrheic Dermatitis?

Although there aren't many studies on Sebco's effectiveness, dermatologists often recommend it as a reliable choice.

Dermatology patients often give positive feedback about it, saying it helped them get rid of their scales. They also find it easy to use.
