Sukkarto Sr Description
Sukkarto SR (metformin) helps control high blood sugar levels.
It helps manage type-2 diabetes and can also stop it from developing.
It's a slow-release tablet, so you only need to take it once or twice a day.

What is Sukkarto SR?

Sukkarto SR is a tablet used to treat diabetes or to help stop it from developing if you're at risk (non-diabetic hyperglycaemia). It contains the active ingredient metformin, but unlike regular metformin, Sukkarto SR is a 'prolonged release' medication. This means the drug is released slowly, so you typically only need to take one or two tablets a day, whereas other metformin tablets are taken 2-3 times a day.

Type-2 diabetes is a condition that often develops in adulthood when your pancreas doesn't produce enough insulin, and your body's cells become less responsive to it. In some cases, diabetes can be prevented by making lifestyle changes, like altering your diet or exercise routine. However, if these changes don't help manage your blood sugar levels, treatments such as metformin are advised.

How does Sukkarto SR work?

The active ingredient in Sukkarto SR, metformin, helps in three ways: it prevents your liver from producing glucose, improves your body's response to insulin, and slows down the absorption of glucose in your intestines.

This works to lower your blood sugar by decreasing the glucose in your system and enhancing your insulin resistance. Insulin is a crucial hormone that helps move glucose from your bloodstream into your cells so it can be used for energy. If your cells don't respond well to insulin, glucose can accumulate in your blood, leading to long-term health issues.

What doses of Sukkarto SR are there?

Sukkarto SR comes in three different strengths: 500mg, 750mg, and 1,000mg. Your doctor will choose the right dose for you based on your condition and medical history. Usually, you'll begin with a 500mg dose each day, which may be increased after a few weeks depending on how you respond. The highest daily dose recommended is 2,000mg, which is two 1,000mg tablets.

How long does it take Sukkarto SR to work?

Sukkarto SR should start working fairly quickly to help with your insulin resistance and reduce your blood sugar levels. However, it may take a few weeks or months to see an improvement in your HbA1c, which measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. If your blood sugar levels haven't decreased after taking the maximum daily dose for a few months, your doctor might prescribe an additional or alternative treatment.

What should I do if I make a mistake when taking Sukkarto SR?

Taking an excessive amount of Sukkarto SR typically isn't worrisome, but it's important to get medical advice if you feel unwell after doing so. In rare cases, consuming a large quantity of Sukkarto SR can cause lactic acidosis, which, if not treated, may lead to a coma. If you miss a dose of Sukkarto SR, take it as soon as you remember, provided it's not too near your next dose. If it is, just skip the missed dose and carry on as usual. Avoid taking a double dose to compensate for the one you missed.

How is Sukkarto SR different from other treatments for diabetes?

Metformin, which is the active ingredient in Sukkarto SR, is often prescribed as the initial treatment for type-2 diabetes. As a result, most individuals with type-2 diabetes are either currently taking metformin or have taken it in the past, unless it's not appropriate for them.

Metformin may also be given to individuals who don't have diabetes yet but are at risk due to factors like obesity or a family history of the condition, alongside maintaining a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Is Sukkarto SR similar to any other treatments?

There are various treatments that include metformin, either by itself (monotherapy) or combined with another diabetes medication. A combination treatment is typically prescribed if single treatments haven't effectively managed your blood sugar levels. Metformin can be found as a generic (unbranded) option or under a brand name like Glucophage.

Sukkarto SR is a medication that contains a 'prolonged-release' form of metformin. Other medicines with prolonged-release metformin include Diagemet XL, Glucophage SR, and Yaltormin SR. You can also find prolonged-release metformin in a generic tablet form. All these options work in a similar way to help manage your blood sugar levels, but they are produced by different companies. Generic versions are typically a bit more affordable than the branded ones.
