Trisequens Description
Trisequens is a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) designed for postmenopausal women, following a 28-day cycle.
It's used to treat symptoms like night sweats and hot flushes.
It includes an oestrogen and a progesterone, and you take it every day.

What is Trisequens?

Menopause occurs when women experience low levels of oestrogen and progesterone. These reduced hormone levels can lead to various symptoms in postmenopausal women, such as hot flushes, night sweats, and a higher risk of osteoporosis. Trisequens is a type of hormone replacement therapy that helps to alleviate these symptoms.

Trisequens is a hormone replacement therapy that combines estradiol and norethisterone acetate in a 28-day cycle. Estradiol is the same as the oestrogen your body naturally produces. Norethisterone acetate is a man-made progestogen that closely resembles the progesterone naturally found in your body. These hormones work together to boost your hormone levels, helping to reduce or get rid of your postmenopausal symptoms.

How does Trisequens work?

Trisequens is taken in 28-day cycles. It's a type of cyclical or sequential HRT. The oestrogen is taken every day, but at two different strengths. The progestogen is included only for 10 days in each 28-day cycle.

The hormones in Trisequens boost the levels of oestrogen and progesterone in your body. This helps to lessen menopause symptoms and also lowers the risk of osteoporosis, which can lead to fragile bones.

Who is Trisequens for?

Trisequens is a type of hormone replacement therapy pill taken in a sequence. It's commonly given to postmenopausal women experiencing menopause symptoms but still having irregular bleeding. However, it's not suitable for women with a history of certain cancers, blood clots, heart attacks, strokes, or liver disease. If you have porphyria or are allergic to any of the ingredients in Trisequens, you should avoid taking it.

Can Trisequens cause depression?

Women taking Trisequens might notice symptoms of depression. These should improve after using Trisequens for a few weeks. If your depression symptoms continue after being on Trisequens for some time, have a chat with your doctor. There could be a different treatment that suits you better.

Can Trisequens cause hair loss?

Trisequens is unlikely to cause hair loss. In fact, the oestrogen in Trisequens usually helps with hair growth and thickness. If you're losing hair while taking Trisequens, it's probably due to something else. Be sure to talk to your doctor about it.

Does Trisequens lead to weight gain?

Hormone replacement therapy options such as Trisequens do not lead to weight gain or loss. Weight changes are often related to ageing and are not linked to hormone replacement therapy. If you're worried about changes in your weight, it's a good idea to talk to your doctor to find out the cause.

How quickly does Trisequens start to work?

Trisequens can start easing your menopause symptoms in just two weeks. You'll notice the full benefits of the treatment within three months. It also takes about three months for your body to get used to Trisequens. If you're still experiencing menopause symptoms or have serious side effects after this period, your doctor might recommend trying a different hormone replacement therapy.
