Utrogestan And Oestrogel Pack Description
Utrogestan and Oestrogel come together as a treatment pack to help with menopause symptoms.
It contains an oestrogen gel and progesterone capsule. You use both daily.
The two hormones work together to ease symptoms such as hot flushes and night sweats.

What is the Utrogestan and Oestrogel Pack?

Utrogestan and Oestrogel is a treatment pack designed to help ease menopause symptoms. It's a form of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) that includes two hormones: Oestrogel, which is an oestrogen gel, and Utrogestan, a progesterone capsule.

Menopause typically begins between the ages of 45 and 55, following your last period. It's a normal part of getting older and leads to a decrease in reproductive hormone levels. In particular, there's a drop in oestrogen, which causes changes in blood levels as your hormones adjust.

During menopause, many women experience symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, and difficulty sleeping. Combined HRT, like the Utrogestan and Oestrogel pack, contains synthetic oestrogen and progesterone. These help balance hormones and can ease menopause symptoms.

How does the Utrogestan and Oestrogel Pack work?

During menopause, changes in oestrogen levels can lead to symptoms such as hot flushes and night sweats. These symptoms can be persistent and often disrupt your usual daily activities.

HRT helps by substituting the hormones your body is producing less of with synthetic ones. By balancing your hormones, it can ease symptoms and reduce the discomfort that menopause can bring.

When you're on HRT, you're typically given oestrogen along with progesterone. Using oestrogen alone can cause the lining of the womb to thicken, so progesterone is included to help prevent this. The Utrogestan and Oestrogel pack offers both oestrogen and progesterone together as one treatment.

What doses of Utrogestan and Oestrogel Pack are there?

The combination pack includes Utrogestan 100mg capsules and an 80g tube of Oestrogel. The Oestrogel comes with a pump to help you dispense the gel easily.

You can take Utrogestan in two different ways.

For sequential HRT: Take two capsules each night at bedtime for 12 days, starting on the 15th day of your cycle.

For continuous HRT, take one capsule each night before you go to bed.

Typically, the recommended dose of Oestrogel is two to four pumps (2.5-5g) daily, applied to dry areas of your skin, like your arms and shoulders. If you find this isn't sufficient to relieve your symptoms, a clinician may suggest increasing your dose to four pumps a day after about a month.

How long does Utrogestan and Oestrogel take to work?

HRT may take up to three months to show its full effects. Typically, you'll be advised to use Utrogestan and Oestrogel for this period before determining if it's suitable for you.

You may notice some improvement in your symptoms sooner, but it really depends on how your body responds to the hormones.

Making some lifestyle adjustments, like maintaining a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and ensuring you get a good night's sleep, can help alleviate menopause symptoms. While you're waiting for Utrogestan and Oestrogel to take effect, managing stress might help lessen how often you experience symptoms. Techniques for relaxation, such as yoga or deep breathing, can complement your HRT and boost your overall wellbeing.

What if I make a mistake while using Utrogestan and Oestrogel?

If you follow the prescription instructions for Utrogestan and Oestrogel precisely, you shouldn't encounter any issues.

Applying too much Oestrogel may lead to breast tenderness, nausea, and vaginal bleeding. If you notice any of these symptoms, stop using the gel and inform your clinician. They might need to lower your dose or discuss how much you're using.

If you accidentally take too many Utrogestan capsules, head to your nearest hospital and get urgent assistance. Taking the medication box with you can help ensure you receive the right care quickly.

Will using Utrogestan and Oestrogel increase my cancer risk?

Using hormone replacement therapy such as Utrogestan and Oestrogel may raise your risk of developing breast cancer.

.

The longer you use HRT, the higher your risk becomes. For every thousand women who use combined hormone replacement for five years, about five cases of breast cancer are reported.

The benefits of HRT usually outweigh the risks, but if you're worried about how it might affect your long-term health, do speak to a clinician. They can discuss all the potential risks with you and help you decide if this treatment is right for you.

How is the Utrogestan and Oestrogel Pack different from other HRT?

The Utrogestan and Oestrogel Pack provides the ease of having both oestrogen and progesterone together. Since it's common to need both hormones to handle menopause symptoms, this pack simplifies your treatment by including them in a single prescription.

Utrogestan is seen as 'natural' compared to other progestogens because it's made from plants. Its structure is the same as the hormones your body naturally produces, which might mean it causes fewer side effects than other progestogens.

The pack includes oestrogen in a gel form (Oestrogel), which could be your preferred option if you'd rather not take too many tablets or capsules. This can also help you distinguish between the two hormones, reducing the chance of making errors with your dosage routine.

Will the Utrogestan and Oestrogel Pack cause side effects?

Common side effects of Oestrogel can include painful periods, periods that are heavier or last longer than usual, and unusual or irregular bleeding. It's estimated that these effects may occur in up to one in ten people using the gel.

Utrogestan may cause side effects such as nausea, tiredness, and dizziness, though it's not specified how often these occur.

Most side effects from Utrogestan and Oestrogel should ease as your body gets used to them. If they continue or cause discomfort, have a chat with a clinician about adjusting the doses or exploring other menopause treatments.

Will the Utrogestan and Oestrogel Pack make me drowsy?

Oestrogel probably won't make you feel sleepy, but Utrogestan capsules might. The patient information leaflet that comes with the capsules mentions drowsiness, so if you do feel sleepy, it's best to avoid driving or operating machinery.

Taking the capsules at bedtime might help you avoid this side effect and could also assist with sleep if menopause symptoms bother you at night.

Do I need a prescription for the Utrogestan and Oestrogel Pack?

You'll need a prescription for both medicines in the pack. Before you begin using the gel and capsules together, a clinician will ensure that this combination pack is a safe and appropriate treatment for your menopause symptoms.
