Ventolin Description
Ventolin is a reliever inhaler that helps to relax your airways during an asthma attack.
It offers quick relief in just a few minutes, and the effects last for several hours.
It comes in two inhaler types: Evohaler and Accuhaler.

What is Ventolin?

Ventolin contains the active ingredient salbutamol. It's an asthma inhaler used to relieve symptoms during an asthma attack.

Ventolin is a bronchodilator inhaler, which means it helps to relax your airways, making it easier to breathe when you experience symptoms.

There are two types of Ventolin inhalers: the Evohaler and the Accuhaler. Both help to ease your symptoms, but you use each one a bit differently.

The Evohaler resembles a more 'traditional' inhaler in appearance and function. The Accuhaler, on the other hand, is circular, and you simply inhale to use it without needing to press anything down.

Asthma is a condition that impacts the airways, causing breathing difficulties. For many, it's just a minor inconvenience that results in shortness of breath and wheezing. However, for some, it can be life-threatening.

Asthma can be triggered by various factors, such as pollution, infections, or exercise, so it's important for each person to be mindful of these triggers to keep it under control. The condition can be effectively managed with medications like Ventolin, which you should always have nearby in case of an attack.

How does Ventolin work?

It helps to relax your airways when they've been irritated by something that triggers your asthma. This makes it easier for you to breathe, reducing breathlessness, coughing, and chest tightness.

Ventolin works quickly to relieve bronchospasms, which occur when the muscles in your lungs tighten and make breathing difficult. Short-acting bronchodilators aren't typically used to prevent asthma, except occasionally for asthma triggered by exercise.

What doses of Ventolin are there?

The Ventolin Evohaler provides 200 puffs per inhaler. Each puff delivers 100 micrograms of salbutamol, which is the active ingredient that makes it effective.

The Accuhaler holds 60 blister strips, each filled with dry powder containing salbutamol. When you take a breath in, you inhale one of these 60 doses. Each dose provides 200 micrograms of salbutamol.

The Accuhaler has a counter showing how many doses are left. When you reach five doses, the numbers turn red. This is a handy reminder to order a new inhaler.

How long does it take for Ventolin to work?

Ventolin is used to treat an asthma attack, so it needs to act fast. You might feel its effects within a few minutes, and it should be noticeable quite quickly.

If you're using it as a preventer, you might not notice any changes. This can actually be a positive sign, as it could mean it's controlling your symptoms very well.

Can you take too much Ventolin?

Ventolin is typically used two to four times a day, but in some situations, you might need up to eight puffs in a 24-hour period. However, you shouldn't go beyond this limit.

If you take more Ventolin than recommended, you might encounter some unpleasant side effects. Signs of a Ventolin overdose can include a fast heartbeat, feeling overly energetic, and shakiness. If you experience any of these symptoms, it's important to get medical help straight away. These effects usually fade after a few hours, but it's always best to be safe.

How effective is Ventolin?

Ventolin is a simple and user-friendly device that delivers medication to your airways swiftly. This quick action is crucial for its effectiveness during an attack.

It has been shown to be highly effective.

with a noticeable decrease in the need for hospital stays. The reassurance of having a quick-acting asthma treatment is also beneficial for your independence and overall well-being.

What dosage of Ventolin should I use?

The amount of Ventolin you need will vary based on why you're using it and how severe your condition is. Make sure to follow the instructions given by our clinician and read the leaflet included with your medication. If you feel you need to increase your Ventolin dose, please consult our clinician first.

The Ventolin inhaler acts as a reliever and its effects can last for several hours. Taking one or two puffs should help alleviate your symptoms. You might use it daily, with two puffs up to four times a day. However, you shouldn't exceed eight puffs in a day. If you're still having trouble controlling your asthma, please speak with our clinician.

How should I clean my Ventolin inhaler?

Make sure to clean your inhaler every two weeks to ensure it delivers the correct dose each time.

To clean the Evohaler, just rinse the inhaler under warm water and let it air dry. There's no need to wash the aerosol part, so take it out before rinsing. For the Accuhaler, simply wipe the mouthpiece with a dry tissue.
