Zindaclin Description
Zindaclin is an antibiotic gel used to treat folliculitis.
The active ingredient, clindamycin phosphate, prevents bacteria from growing in hair follicles.
For mild folliculitis, it can be used on its own, or combined with oral antibiotics for more severe cases.

What is Zindaclin used for?

Zindaclin gel is a topical antibiotic that contains clindamycin phosphate. It's mainly used to treat acne, but doctors might also prescribe it for other skin issues like folliculitis, even if it's not officially listed for those conditions. This is known as 'off-label' prescribing. Rest assured, healthcare professionals only do this when there's solid evidence that it's safe and effective.

Folliculitis is a common skin issue where hair follicles get inflamed, leading to a rash with red bumps or whiteheads that can be itchy or painful. It's typically caused by infections from bacteria, fungi, or viruses, but can also occur due to chemicals, skin irritation, or ingrown hairs.

How does Zindaclin work for folliculitis?

Bacterial folliculitis is a form of folliculitis that occurs when bacteria infect your hair follicles. It usually appears as a red bump and may have a spot at the opening of the hair follicle.

Clindamycin, found in Zindaclin gel, is an antibiotic that works well for treating bacterial folliculitis. However, if your folliculitis is due to fungi or viruses, it might not be the best option. It's a good idea to discuss this with your clinician, who can guide you on the most suitable treatment.

Clindamycin helps stop bacteria from growing on skin affected by folliculitis by blocking the production of bacterial proteins. As the infection is managed, your skin begins to heal on its own.

Are there different doses of Zindaclin gel?

Zindaclin is available in just one strength: Zindaclin 1% gel. The active ingredient in this gel is clindamycin phosphate. Each tube contains 1.2% clindamycin phosphate, which is equivalent to 1% clindamycin.

How well does Zindaclin gel work for folliculitis?

Clindamycin, the key ingredient in Zindaclin gel, works well for treating mild to moderate bacterial folliculitis.

However, if the condition is more severe or covers a larger area, you might need to use both Zindaclin gel applied to the skin and oral antibiotics.

If your folliculitis is due to something other than bacteria, such as viruses, fungi, or certain chemicals, it's important to speak with your clinician to find out the exact cause and the appropriate treatment.

Clindamycin 1% was used alongside benzoyl peroxide 5% twice a day for 10 weeks to treat pseudofolliculitis barbae. This condition involves ingrown hairs leading to spots and dark marks, commonly affecting men who shave, particularly black men. The treatment proved effective, reducing spots and pustules by 38.2% after 2 weeks and by 63.9% after 10 weeks. It was safe and well-tolerated.

Does Zindaclin gel have any side effects?

As with all medicines, Zindaclin gel can cause side effects. However, not everyone will experience them, so there's a chance you might not notice any. Common side effects include dry skin, redness, a burning sensation on the skin, eye irritation, and itchy skin.
