Zumenon Description
Zumenon is a treatment containing only oestrogen, used for relieving menopause symptoms.
It's a tablet you take every day that helps balance your hormone levels.
It comes in two strengths, with one being a low-dose option.

What is Zumenon?

Menopause is a stage every woman experiences. It involves a drop in reproductive hormones, signalling the end of fertility. Many women have symptoms such as hot flushes and night sweats. Sometimes, these symptoms can be severe enough to disrupt daily life.

If you're struggling with symptoms after menopause, there's no need to worry. Mylan offers Zumenon, a treatment designed to help women manage symptoms that disrupt their everyday life after menopause. This oestrogen-only formulation provides a continuous hormone replacement therapy (HRT) option for postmenopausal women. If you haven't had a hysterectomy, you'll need to take a progestogen pill alongside Zumenon.

How does Zumenon work?

Zumenon contains estradiol hemihydrate as its active ingredient, which is the same hormone your body naturally produces. This HRT treatment boosts the oestrogen levels in your body. Since post-menopausal symptoms occur due to low hormone levels, this can help ease the discomfort you might be feeling from hot flushes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, or other menopause symptoms.

Besides relieving your symptoms, Zumenon also helps lower your risk of osteoporosis. This is crucial because women can lose up to 20% of their bone mass during menopause, greatly raising the chance of developing osteoporosis. As bone loss is linked to low oestrogen levels, the oestrogen in Zumenon offers a protective benefit.

What doses of Zumenon are there?

Zumenon comes in two strengths: 1 mg and 2 mg. Initially, our clinician will probably start you on the lower dose to check if it eases your postmenopause symptoms. If it doesn't, they might increase your dose.

Our clinician might not prescribe HRT treatment such as Zumenon if your post-menopause symptoms aren't severe. HRT is typically used for those whose menopause symptoms are significantly affecting their daily lives.

How long does it take Zumenon to work?

HRT treatments such as Zumenon may take three to four months to show their full benefits. Our clinician will keep an eye on your progress to ensure Zumenon is helping with your symptoms. If, after a few months, you find that your daily life is still being affected, we might consider increasing your dose or exploring a different treatment to provide you with some relief.

What should I do if I accidentally take Zumenon incorrectly?

Missing a dose of Zumenon isn't a big problem. If you remember within 12 hours, just take it as soon as you can. But if it's been over 12 hours, skip the missed dose and wait until your next scheduled one. If you tend to forget, consider setting an alarm to help you remember to take Zumenon daily.

Never take two doses to make up for one you missed. Doing so can result in an overdose, which may cause side effects such as tiredness, feeling sick, vomiting, dizziness, or vaginal bleeding. If you suspect you've taken too much Zumenon, get medical help straight away.

Is Zumenon similar to any other treatments?

Zumenon and Elleste Solo are identical medications, just made and sold by different companies. Some oestrogen HRT treatments come as patches or are given in other ways. Those who use Zumenon might like the convenience of a tablet, whereas others might favour patches or methods that don't need to be taken every day.

How is Zumenon different from other HRTs?

Zumenon is an ongoing HRT tablet that contains only oestrogen. It's a safe option for women who have undergone a hysterectomy. If you haven't had a hysterectomy, you might require a treatment that includes both oestrogen and progesterone.

Which dose of Zumenon should I use?

It's best to begin any HRT treatment with the lowest dose to minimise side effects. For Zumenon, our clinician will probably start you on 1 mg and may increase it to 2 mg if you require more relief. Make sure to discuss with our clinician if you feel your dose needs adjusting.

Do I need a prescription for Zumenon?

All hormone replacement therapy medications need to be monitored by our clinician. Therefore, Zumenon isn't available over the counter. Our clinician will need to assess your health history to determine if Zumenon is safe for you before prescribing it.
