Speak to Our Team

Why Aftercare Matters

Every aesthetic treatment triggers a healing response beneath the skin. How you care for yourself in the hours and days that follow shapes the quality and longevity of your results. Our practitioners at Westbury Chemist have assembled these guidelines to give you clear, treatment-specific advice you can trust.

💉 Anti-Wrinkle Injections
Initial Results 3–5 Days
Full Effect 10–14 Days
Results Last 3–4 Months
Free Review 14 Days

First 4 Hours

  • Stay upright. Avoid lying flat or bending forward for at least four hours after treatment.
  • Do not touch, rub, or press the treated area. This helps the product settle precisely where your practitioner placed it.
  • Gently exercise the treated muscles by raising your eyebrows or frowning — this encourages absorption into the target muscles.

First 24 Hours

  • Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and any activity that raises your heart rate significantly.
  • Skip saunas, steam rooms, hot baths, and hot tubs. Heat increases blood flow and can cause the product to migrate.
  • Do not consume alcohol. It thins the blood and increases the chance of bruising.
  • Apply a cold compress gently (not directly on the skin) if you notice mild swelling or redness.

First 2 Weeks

  • Avoid facials, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or laser treatments on the treated area.
  • Do not wear tight headwear, goggles, or anything that puts pressure on the treated zones.
  • Sleep on your back where possible for the first two nights.
Practitioner Tip We offer a complimentary 14-day follow-up appointment to review your results and assess whether a top-up is needed. Book this when you leave the clinic.

Normal Side Effects

Mild redness, small bumps at injection sites, and light bruising are common and typically resolve within hours to a few days. Occasional headaches may occur and usually pass within 24 hours.

Contact Us Immediately If You Experience Drooping of the eyelid or brow, difficulty swallowing, blurred or double vision, severe headache that persists beyond 48 hours, or signs of allergic reaction such as widespread rash, swelling of the throat, or difficulty breathing.
Dermal Fillers

Dermal filler aftercare applies to all filler treatments at Westbury Chemist, including lip enhancement, cheek filler, chin and jawline filler, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, non-surgical rhinoplasty, and tear trough treatment.

Visible Results Immediate
Settling Period 1–2 Weeks
Results Last 9–18 Months

First 24 Hours

  • Avoid touching, pressing, or massaging the treated area unless your practitioner specifically instructs you to do so.
  • Do not apply make-up for at least 12 hours to reduce infection risk at the injection sites.
  • Steer clear of alcohol, as it dilates blood vessels and worsens swelling and bruising.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, hot environments, and prolonged sun exposure.
  • Sleep with your head slightly elevated on the first night to help reduce swelling.

First 48 Hours (Lip Filler Specific)

  • Use a straw for drinking if your lips feel tender.
  • Avoid kissing or placing sustained pressure on the lips.
  • Skip spicy and very hot food, which can irritate the treated area.
  • Expect your lips to feel firm and appear slightly larger than the final result. Swelling typically settles within 3–5 days.

First 2 Weeks

  • Avoid dental procedures for at least two weeks after any lower-face filler treatment.
  • Do not book facials, chemical peels, or skin treatments over the treated area.
  • Stay well hydrated. Hyaluronic acid fillers draw water to maintain volume, so proper hydration supports your results.
  • Protect treated areas from extreme cold and prolonged direct sunlight.

Normal Side Effects

Swelling, tenderness, redness, and minor bruising are expected and resolve within days. Some asymmetry during the settling period is normal and does not indicate the final result.

Seek Urgent Advice If You Notice Intense or increasing pain, skin turning white or blue (blanching), skin that appears dusky or mottled, any change in vision, or tissue that feels hard and cold to the touch. These may be signs of vascular occlusion and require immediate attention.
Good to Know Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. If you have any concerns about your results after the settling period, speak to our team and we will arrange a review appointment.
💧 Skin Boosters & Polynucleotides

This guide covers aftercare for Profhilo, Seventy Hyal, Mesotherapy, Lumi Eyes, Nucleofill (under eye and face), and Plinest treatments.

Skin Settling 24–48 Hours
Hydration Boost 1–2 Weeks
Full Glow 4–6 Weeks

First 6 Hours

  • Leave the skin clean and free from all products. Do not apply make-up, serums, SPF, or moisturiser during this window.
  • Do not touch or rub the treated area. You may notice small raised bumps (wheals) at the injection points — these are completely normal and flatten within hours.

First 24 Hours

  • Avoid exercise, swimming, saunas, steam rooms, and any activity that produces heavy sweating.
  • Do not consume alcohol.
  • Avoid prolonged sun or UV exposure.
  • Use only a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser when washing the face.

First Week

  • Resume your regular skincare routine after 24 hours, starting with gentle products before reintroducing active ingredients such as retinoids or vitamin C serums.
  • Drink plenty of water. Skin boosters and hyaluronic acid treatments work by attracting moisture, so good hydration amplifies results.
  • Avoid exfoliating acids, retinol, and chemical peels on the treated area for five to seven days.

Normal Side Effects

Small bumps, mild redness, slight tenderness, and minor bruising at injection points are all part of the normal healing response. These typically settle within 24–48 hours.

Practitioner Tip For treatments like Profhilo, optimal results appear after completing the recommended course of two sessions spaced four weeks apart. Consistency matters more than any single session.
🧴 Chemical Peels

Chemical peels at Westbury Chemist range from superficial to deep. The depth of your peel determines the intensity of your skin's response and the aftercare required. Your practitioner will confirm which level of peel you have received.

Peeling Begins Day 2–3
Peeling Ends Day 5–10
New Skin Reveals 7–14 Days

First 24 Hours

  • Do not wash, touch, or apply anything to the treated skin for the duration your practitioner specifies (usually 6–12 hours depending on peel depth).
  • Your skin may feel tight, warm, or mildly stinging — this is a normal response to the acid treatment.
  • Avoid direct sunlight entirely.

During the Peeling Phase (Days 2–10)

  • Do not pick, pull, or scrub peeling skin. Forcing the skin off risks scarring and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
  • Keep the skin moisturised with a gentle, fragrance-free balm or the product recommended by your practitioner.
  • Apply SPF 50 every morning without exception, even on overcast days. Fresh skin is extremely vulnerable to UV damage.
  • Avoid active skincare ingredients including retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and vitamin C until peeling has fully resolved.
  • Do not exercise heavily or expose the skin to heat sources such as saunas, hot water, or cooking steam.

Weeks 2–4

  • Gradually reintroduce your regular skincare routine, beginning with the gentlest products first.
  • Continue daily SPF use. Post-peel skin remains photosensitive for several weeks.
  • Avoid booking other facial treatments until your practitioner confirms the skin has fully recovered.
Contact Us If You Experience Severe blistering, open wounds that do not heal, signs of infection such as pus, excessive heat, or spreading redness, or darkening patches that worsen rather than improve.
🔬 Microneedling

Microneedling creates thousands of micro-channels in the skin to stimulate your body's own collagen production. Proper aftercare protects these channels while they heal and maximises your skin renewal.

Redness Fades 24–72 Hours
Skin Renewal 1–2 Weeks
Collagen Building 4–6 Weeks

First 12 Hours

  • Leave the skin completely bare. Do not apply make-up, SPF, serums, or any product unless specifically provided by your practitioner.
  • Avoid touching your face. Your skin has open micro-channels and is temporarily more susceptible to bacteria.
  • Expect the skin to look and feel like mild sunburn — redness, warmth, and slight tightness are all normal.

First 24–48 Hours

  • Cleanse with lukewarm water and a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser only.
  • Apply only the post-treatment products recommended by your practitioner — typically a soothing, hydrating serum or balm.
  • Do not exercise, swim, sweat heavily, or use saunas and steam rooms.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and do not apply chemical sunscreen until the redness has settled. Mineral SPF is usually safe after 24 hours.

First Week

  • No exfoliating products, retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, or vitamin C serums for five to seven days.
  • Do not pick at any flaking or dry skin. This is your body shedding the treated surface layer naturally.
  • Sleep on a clean pillowcase (ideally silk or satin to reduce friction) for the first few nights.
  • Stay well hydrated and eat nutrient-rich foods that support skin healing.
Practitioner Tip Microneedling results build with each session. For best results, we recommend a course of three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Your practitioner will design a plan tailored to your skin concerns.
🩸 PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)

PRP aftercare covers the Vampire Facial, PRP for hands, and PRP hair restoration treatments offered at Westbury Chemist.

Initial Recovery 24–48 Hours
Results Develop 1–3 Months
Results Last Up to 16 Months

First 6 Hours

  • Do not wash, touch, or apply any products to the treated area.
  • If you have had a Vampire Facial, your skin may appear red or have a pinkish tinge from the plasma — this is completely normal.

First 24 Hours

  • Avoid make-up, perfumed products, and chemical sunscreen on the treated area.
  • Do not exercise or expose the area to heat (saunas, hot baths, hot showers on the face).
  • Avoid alcohol and anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, as these can dampen the platelet-driven healing response that delivers your results.

First Week

  • Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, and any open water until the skin has fully healed.
  • Do not use exfoliating acids, retinoids, or active serums for five to seven days.
  • Protect the treated area from direct sunlight and apply SPF 50 daily once the skin has settled.

PRP Hair Restoration — Additional Notes

  • Do not wash your hair for at least 12 hours after treatment.
  • Use a gentle, sulphate-free shampoo for the first week.
  • Avoid colouring, perming, or chemically treating your hair for at least 72 hours.
  • Scalp tenderness is normal and typically resolves within one to two days.
Course Recommendation A typical PRP course consists of three treatments spaced one month apart, followed by maintenance sessions every six months. Your practitioner will tailor the plan to your skin or hair goals during your consultation.
💧 IV Vitamin Therapy

IV therapy at Westbury Chemist delivers vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants directly into your bloodstream for rapid absorption. This aftercare covers all drips including the Anti-Ageing, Detox, Fitness, Myers Cocktail, High Dose Vitamin C, Hair Health, Multivitamin, Skinny, Snow White Brightening, and Hangover drips.

Infusion Time 30–60 Minutes
Benefits Peak 24–72 Hours

Immediately After

  • Keep the plaster over the cannula site for at least two hours to prevent bruising.
  • If you feel light-headed, remain seated for a few minutes before standing. This is common and usually passes quickly.
  • Drink a full glass of water within the first 30 minutes after your infusion.

First 24 Hours

  • Stay well hydrated. Aim for at least two litres of water over the course of the day.
  • Eat a balanced meal within a few hours of your treatment if you have not already done so.
  • Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours to allow your body to absorb and use the nutrients effectively.
  • Light exercise is generally fine, but avoid heavy training if you feel fatigued.

Normal Responses

A mild metallic taste during or shortly after infusion is normal with certain vitamins. Slight bruising or tenderness at the injection site can occur. Some clients report a warm flush during high-dose vitamin C infusions — this is harmless and passes within minutes.

Contact Us If You Experience Redness, swelling, or pain at the cannula site that worsens over 24 hours (possible sign of phlebitis), chest tightness or difficulty breathing, persistent nausea or vomiting, or any signs of allergic reaction such as hives or facial swelling.
💊 Vitamin IM Injections

This guide covers intramuscular vitamin injections offered at Westbury Chemist, including Vitamin B12 (Hydroxocobalamin and Methylcobalamin), Vitamin D, Vitamin C, and Biotin.

Immediately After

  • Keep the plaster on the injection site for at least one hour.
  • You may feel a slight ache or heaviness in the muscle where the injection was given — this is normal and usually eases within a day.

First 24 Hours

  • Stay hydrated and eat normally.
  • Avoid heavy exercise targeting the injected muscle for 24 hours.
  • If mild soreness develops, a cool compress held gently over the site can help.

Normal Side Effects

Mild soreness, slight redness, or a small bruise at the injection site are all common and resolve within a day or two. Some clients notice a temporary flush or warmth after Vitamin B12 injections.

Good to Know The number of sessions required depends on your individual needs and is determined during your consultation. Vitamin B12, for example, is available in single-shot and 10-shot packages for ongoing maintenance.

General Aftercare Guidelines

These principles apply to most aesthetic treatments. Pair them with the treatment-specific advice above for the best possible recovery.

Stay Hydrated

Water supports every healing process in the body. Aim for at least two litres daily in the days following your treatment, more if you are active.

Protect From the Sun

Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 50 daily after any skin treatment. UV exposure can trigger hyperpigmentation and undermine your results.

Avoid Blood Thinners

Where possible, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and high-dose vitamin E before and after injectable treatments. These increase bruising risk. Always check with your practitioner before stopping prescribed medication.

Be Patient

Most aesthetic results improve over days and weeks, not hours. Swelling, redness, and asymmetry during the healing window are rarely a reflection of your final outcome.

Sleep Well

Quality sleep accelerates tissue repair and collagen synthesis. Aim for seven to eight hours on the nights following your treatment.

Attend Your Review

Our follow-up appointments exist to fine-tune your results and address any questions. Do not skip them — they are an important part of the treatment journey.

Your safety is our first priority. If something does not look or feel right after your treatment, reach out to us straight away. Do not wait.

Aftercare FAQs

Common questions from our patients after treatment.

When can I wear make-up after my treatment?

For injectable treatments (fillers, anti-wrinkle, skin boosters), wait at least 12 hours. For microneedling and chemical peels, wait a minimum of 24 hours or until your practitioner confirms the skin has closed. Always apply make-up with clean brushes or freshly washed hands.

Can I exercise after aesthetic treatment?

Avoid strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours after most treatments. For chemical peels and microneedling, we recommend 48 hours. Light walking is generally fine on the same day. Your practitioner will confirm what applies to your specific treatment.

How do I reduce bruising?

Apply a cold compress gently (wrapped in a cloth — never directly on the skin) in short intervals during the first 24 hours. Avoid alcohol, aspirin, and ibuprofen. Arnica cream or tablets can also help if started on the day of treatment. If bruising persists beyond two weeks, contact the clinic.

My filler looks uneven — is this normal?

Yes, mild asymmetry is common during the first one to two weeks as swelling settles at different rates across the face. The product also continues to integrate with the surrounding tissue. If asymmetry remains after two weeks, book a review appointment and our practitioner will assess whether a minor adjustment is needed.

Is it normal to feel lumps under the skin after filler?

Small, soft lumps can be normal in the first few days as the filler settles. Gentle massage (only if instructed by your practitioner) can help smooth them. If a lump is hard, painful, or grows in size, contact us promptly for assessment.

When should I book my next session?

This depends on the treatment. Anti-wrinkle injections are typically repeated every three to four months. Filler maintenance varies from nine to eighteen months. Skin booster and microneedling courses are spaced four to six weeks apart. Your practitioner will recommend a personalised schedule during your review appointment.

Can I fly after having aesthetic treatment?

We recommend waiting at least 48 hours before flying after injectable treatments. Cabin pressure and low humidity can worsen swelling. If you are planning to travel, let your practitioner know before your appointment so they can advise on timing.

Who should I contact outside clinic hours?

For non-urgent queries, email the clinic and we will respond at the earliest opportunity. For anything you suspect is a medical emergency, such as signs of vascular occlusion after filler or an allergic reaction, attend your nearest A&E immediately and inform them of the treatment you have received.
